Preparation and application

A strong interior finish begins with an honest assessment of the existing surfaces. We check for loose coatings, cracks, damaged filler, movement around plasterboard joints and areas that may need stain blocking or a specialist primer.

Floors, furniture, fittings and adjoining surfaces are protected before preparation starts. Surfaces are cleaned where required, imperfections are repaired and sanded, and gaps are addressed with materials suited to the location. The paint system is then selected around the substrate, the room and the level of use.

Traditional brush and roller application remains the right choice for many occupied properties. Airless or fine-finish spraying can be more efficient for suitable empty rooms, new plaster, detailed joinery or larger renovation projects. The method is chosen for the job rather than used as a shortcut.

Local knowledge

Planned for Edinburgh and the Lothians

Edinburgh properties range from Georgian and Victorian flats with ornate cornices and sash windows to modern apartments, family homes and commercial interiors. Older plaster, deep woodwork profiles and previously repaired surfaces often need more preparation than a newly built room. We allow the condition of the property to guide the specification and explain that work clearly in the quotation.

Frequently asked questions

Interior Painting & Decorating FAQs

Can you decorate an occupied home?

Yes. We agree access, protection and a practical order of work before starting. The exact approach depends on the rooms involved and how the property is being used.

Do you paint period features?

Yes. We regularly work around cornices, ceiling roses, sash-and-case windows, shutters, panelling and detailed staircases, using preparation and application methods appropriate to each surface.

Can you help with paint choices?

We can discuss sheen level, durability and how a colour may behave in the available light. Final colour selection remains yours, but the product specification can be matched to the room.

Do you repair walls before painting?

Normal decorating preparation is included in the agreed scope. Larger plaster repairs or specialist remedial work are identified separately so the quotation remains clear.
